FAQ's
CAN I HAVE MY CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT ON THE SAME DAY?
Yes.
Of course this is a decision that is entirely up to you. We’re aware of patients travelling long distances to come and see us. On the other hand we also appreciate that aesthetic treatments are often decisions patients like to have time to make. For this reasons we are happy to have an initial consultation to discuss any ideas or concerns you may have and make a plan for any future treatments.

HOW LONG WILL LIP FILLER RESULTS LAST?
The average time for the body to reabsorb HA lip fillers is around 6-9 months. This figure is dependant on a number of factors including patient age, their metabolism, quantity of exercise and whether or not they smoke.
Lip fillers tend to last slightly less than fillers in other parts of the face due to the amount of movement occurring at the mouth on a day to day basis. This movement causes an increase in blood flow that in turn speeds up how quickly the filler is dissolved naturally by the body.
Every patient is different so there is no hard and fast rule but the above information is a good guide

IS LIP FILLER PAINFUL?
No.
We give every patient a full local anaesthetic into the gums (AKA dental nerve block) so you should feel virtually nothing. There is some slight discomfort with the administration of the local anaesthetic for this block but this passes very quickly.
Topical (ie onto the skin) numbing cream are not recommended for this procedure by Dr Hannah as they don't reach deep into the body of the lip where we typically inject and is therefore ineffective. Numbing cream also takes 40 minutes to start working which isn't practical for most people.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME FOLLOWING LIP AUGMENTATION AND WHAT CAN I DO TO AVOID COMPLICATIONS?
Most patients report minor puffiness in the lips for around 48hours after the procedure. It's important to note that our cannula technique (using blunt cannulas via an initial small, sharp scratch) is far less invasive than the more basic needle technique that requires up to 20 injections to the four lip quadrants. This means that the chance of bruising and swelling after the procedure is greatly reduced when performed via our cannula technique.
Bruising tends to occur in around 1 in every 30 patients and although steps can be taken to minimise this there is no way to totally eradicate this risk.
We have a general guidance sheet for people following lip filler that we offer to all patients receiving treatment here at the Wellness Space.

WHAT WILL MY LIPS FEEL LIKE after the lip augmentation treatment?
For the first few days your lips will feel lumpy and bumpy as it takes a little time for the HA filler to stabilise under the skin or your lips. We always advise patients to give their lips a few weeks to settle and if you were unlucky enough to experience bruising after the procedure then this can take as long as 6 weeks to resolve.
In the vast majority of cases the swelling subsides. In rare cases when your concerned about the appearance we will be happy to see you again in clinic for a review but remember that aesthetics guidelines and accepted best practice are not to review any issues with lips for 2-3 weeks in order to give the body enough time to recover from the initial procedure. In addition lips naturally have some lumps present due to normally occurring cysts called mucoceles so lumps felt may not necessarily be related to the filler injection,

WHAT IF I HAVE FILLERS AND I HATE THE RESULTS?
All our HA fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme product that is identical to the naturally occurring enzyme made by your body.
will my lips look worse if i choose not to get lip filler after the effects of my first treatment have worn off?
No.
Once the initial HA filler has been natural dissolved by your body your lips will return to looking exactly the same as they did before.

HOW MUCH lip filler SHould I HAVE? 0.5ml or a full 1 ml syringe?
This is entirely patient specific and depends on the look you want and your current lip fullness. There are many factors to consider but Dr Hannah will only inject up to 1ml of filler per sitting. There are a variety of reasons for this (mainly as we like the lips to settle and adapt and we don't want to over expand the tissue) but and we would be happy to discuss this and others during consultation.
will tear trough treatment TREAT HYPERPIGMENTATION UNDER THE EYES?
Following tear trough treatment the grooves under your eyes are filled which will alleviate and lesson the effects of mild shadowing. Strong hyper-pigmentation will likely not be eliminated following treatment.
WHAT ARE THE potential SIDE EFFECTS OF TEAR TROUGH TREATMENT?
Typically side effects are very rare.
You may experience minor bruising, swelling, puffiness or lumpiness. More rarely the injections can cause longer lasting redness under the eye with some temporary swelling and inflammation usually due to the fact this part of the face is so sensitive.
As with all of our fillers, they can be fully reversed incase any issues arrise.

WHEN’S THE BEST AGE TO HAVE OTHER FACIAL FILLERS?
Ageing is a very individual process so there is no 'right time' for filler treatments. As a good guide many aesthetic practitioners talk about when make-up starts to not look quite right and this can be due to subtle changes in the lines of your face.
We advise a consultation with Dr Hannah to discuss your concerns and thoughts and we can advise further.

if i need filler dissolve what is it, how long does it take to work and are there any side effects?
We use a dissolving solution called Hyaluronidase which is an enzyme which breaks down hyaluronic acid (the substance found in our fillers).
It takes around 24 hours to work.
The frequency of side effects is unknown but no drug is made available to the UK market and licensed when the benefits are shown to out weigh the risks. Risks include allergic reactions, injection site problems such as irritation, infection, bleeding and bruising and generalised swelling.

WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER THE DISSOLVE?
Once the Hyaluronidase has fully taken effect you will look exactly the same as you would look without any filler. This enzyme dissolve only works on hyaluronic acid based in the filler and does not effect your normal body tissues whatsoever.
How long will the effect of anti-wrinkle injections last and How long does it take to start working?
The response to Anti-Wrinkle injections is not immediate and it usually takes several days for the muscles to respond, with efficacy (how well the treatment works) peaking at around 2-3 weeks.
Ultimately the effects are temporary and the muscles are put into hibernation for approximately 3-6 months but this depends on the area you have had treated and how many times you have had injections before.
Patients often report that the effects last longer after their first or second repeated
treatments. Continued use can have a preventative effect mainly as treated areas are no longer as mobile therefore decreasing the amount of wrinkle formation via muscle pull / activation.

how long do i have to wait after my first treatment before i can have further Anti-Wrinkle injections?
After the 3-6 month time period after anti-wrinkle injections it is necessary to repeat these to maintain its skin smoothing effects.
We understand that patients are keen to get maximal effects from their anti-wrinkle injections and we often have questions regarding timing of further treatments.
As a rule Dr Hannah applies the following timeline for after injection:
0 - 2 weeks - No further top ups are permitted to allow full time for effect to occur
2 - 3 weeks - Can come back for review with Dr Hannah if patient has particular concerns about effects in certain areas.
3 - 12 weeks - No further touch ups permitted and we are strict with this.
12 weeks + - Patients can return to have further treatments.
The treatment should not wear off in a few weeks and if it does then it is likely the dosage or position of the injection was not quite right. In very rare cases there is something called BOTOX® resistance although in practice this is nearly never the case with incidence being less than 1 in 10,000.
Will anti-wrinkle injections only work on a certain age range of patients?
The more elastic the skin, the better the treatment will work. The injections are effective at smoothing wrinkles in patients from around 20 to 65 years of age. The most effective lines are those caused by muscle pull and these are best treated prior to the lines becoming too deep. Wrinkles caused by excess or loose skin and/ or sun damage on the other hand are not as effectively treated. The best way of ascertaining whether the individual treatment is suitable and beneficial for you as an individual patient is via consultation with Dr Hannah for a face to face assessment.
CAN I STILL HAVE TREATMENTS IF I SUFFER FROM COLD SORES?
Yes, this isn't a problem.
We advise asking your Doctor for the anti-viral 'aciclovir' which can help aid breakouts before treatments. We offer this medication to you (as long as suitable) following your treatment to help prevent further triggering. Whilst we cannot guarantee against breakouts secondary to the cold sore virus our experience is that anti-virals are effective at limiting this.
